| Position Responsibilities: |
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY To optimize the design and engineering of all products, both new and existing, through the application of sound engineering knowledge and skills. TASKS Develop, optimize, and implement sound engineering solutions to ensure superior product performance for new products, derivative products, and for value and quality improvements. Coordinate and influence the activities of a variety of functional groups to ensure that timely, accurate, and cost effective solutions are implemented. Identify appropriate manufacturing processes for new products, considering financial aspects and internal core competencies. Participate actively in all phases of the new product development process, including conceptual design, market research, financial evaluation, tooling development, and pilot production run. Work closely with manufacturing associates to ensure smooth transition of product development projects into the production environment. Work with suppliers to identify and implement cost reduction opportunities. Identify, evaluate, & implement quality improvements and value improvements for the existing product line. Support manufacturing operations on product-related issues, as needed. CLIMATE Works with minimal supervision in a fast-paced team environment. Interacts with associates at all levels of the organization, as well as with suppliers, customers, and consumers. Plans, organizes, and influences the efforts of a variety of functional groups through a matrix organization. Performs a variety of work assignments to meet business objectives on a global basis. Qualifications B.S. in Engineering (4 yr.), Mechanical or Plastics Knowledge and skills in project management (experience with MS Project a strong requirement) 5 to 7 years experience in product engineering or related field Strong background in metals 3-D Modeling experience (Solid Works preferred) PC literate, MS Windows-based (MS Office preferred) Strong communication skills, both oral and written Strong interpersonal skills Strong problem-solving skills Preferred Qualifications: Consumer Products Industry Experience Newell Rubbermaid and its Business Units are Equal Opportunity Employers and comply with applicable employment laws.
